News Butler privacy policy

Where your information lives
News Butler runs on a server. Each server is run by its owner, the admin, who decides who may use it. Your information is kept on that server, not by Purple Panther, unless the server you use is one Purple Panther runs itself.
What the server keeps
- Your name and email address, entered by the admin.
- Your password, kept only in scrambled form that cannot be read back.
- A sign-in record for each browser or phone you sign in on, for up to one year or until you sign out.
- What you set up: categories, feeds, interests, blocked sites and settings.
- What you do with articles: read, saved, kept unread, Like, Less and topic votes.
- Your Share places, if you add them: the address and access key of your own Karakeep or Mealie.
- A log of the pages you open, with your name, the time and the address, so the admin can fix problems.
What leaves the server
- To collect articles, the server visits the sites you follow, and searches Google News using words from your interests. These requests come from the server and carry neither your name nor your email.
- Article text is sent to the AI model the admin set up, to write summaries and English headlines. On Purple Panther's own server that model runs on its own hardware.
- When you tap Share, the article is sent to your own Karakeep or Mealie.
- Nothing else. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold.
The Android app
The app keeps on your phone: the server address and your email (never your password), articles saved for reading offline, and actions waiting to be sent when there is no signal. Uninstalling the app removes them. Google Play may collect information of its own under Google's privacy policy.

Age
News Butler is meant for adults, 18 and over.
